#28 RAP TAPES: The Beatnuts

Also known as Street Level, this tape was probably the one tape that I realized I had slept the hardest on from originally having owned it. The Intoxicated Demons EP that they first put out is a soundtrack to tall cans of Hurricane and soaking in the Friday afternoon vibe of downtown Richmond on Broad Street, thumbing through stacks of new singles at Willie's (R.I.P. - greatest record store ever in Richmond), and just generally being young, carefree, careless, and wide open within the confined spaces of an urban life. So I guess this tape, their first full-length release, kinda fell to the wayside of my listening habits, just because I loved on that first one so hard. You know, the Beatnuts may be one of the most solid rap groups ever, because they've constantly put out good shit for a coon's age and a half, and even when they fell off, it was more of a waver rather than the big fall-off we've all seen from shits like Fat Joe. Who the fuck am I talking to with this "we" bullshit? Ain't nobody here. BEATNUTS FOREVER DIE HARD MOTHERFUCKER! BERSERKER! BEND YOUR GIRL LIKE COMMA! BERSERKER!
