SONG OF THE DAY: Why Do Everything Happen To Me

The guy that puts out the vegetables at the Food Lion in Scottsville is never wearing a mask over his mouth and nose, just sort of dangling, strapped to his chin, usually with a shit-eating grin on his face. I’m not the type to snitch to a manager, and the manager there has that redneck hip hop dude from 1991 who got a woman pregnant and is gonna do right by her the rest of his life look anyways, so he probably wouldn’t even care the guy wasn’t wearing his mask, and would just do that, “Look man, people complained. You just gotta be cool about it.” And fuckface would still be wearing his mask as a chin strap a week later.
The weird thing about our culture – if you can call it that – is how proudly stupid people have become. Even smart people. Shit everybody. If our culture is anything it’s one of self-importance, where we think we have to share our goddamn idiot thoughts on every single subject on social media. And then trending topics force us to give opinions about shit we didn’t even think about or care about otherwise. And it all gets to feel so stupid and overwhelming that when I’m trying to get through the stupid fucking Food Lion during a pandemic with rising numbers, and just grab the things I need, and I see the idiot pear-shaped redneck produce man standing there looking like a goddamn cartoon warning against electrocuting yourself from 1949, setting bags of onions out, I just wanna stomp him and the whole world into pulp. But I can’t, and don’t. I just buy my useless shit and go home, like everybody else, until the credit behind my name runs out, and I’m sleeping in the cold earth again.

SONG OF THE DAY: When My Fever Breaks

Is this a Covid anthem now? Anthem is also health insurance and I passed a sign they had of five things to remember during the mystery plague we're having, but it didn't ring out well enough to be remembered, especially when the Krispy Kreme was right there putting distracting smells into the air. Ain't no mask gonna stop donut smell. Health insurance doesn't really ensure anything anyways. It's amazing to me medicare for all is some crazy shit here and people get mad about wearing masks and also there are spikes in people getting sick and we don't even know if immunity happens or is permanent or what. But people are mad about wearing masks and are okay with taking a chance on kids dying by going to school. Speaking of ensuring shit, is there a co-pay to exist here in this country? Have I met my deductible yet? Am I free until January 1? Have I made enough minimum payments to not die in debt? Or will my children inherit my worthlessness? Sometimes the plague seems like relief, but there's the lottery ticket of it'd kill you right away or run up a ton of bills you'd leave behind that stack way higher than any paychecks or insurance checks that'd still come your family's way after you've gone from this mortal coil to wander the clouds playing horseshoes with Tupac and El Santo, $5 a game.

SONG OF THE DAY: Black Messiah

Simultaneously seen some folks complaining about how not enough deaths are getting classified as Covid 19 deaths, while other folks complain about how too many things that have underlying health issues are getting classified as Covid 19 deaths. Both sides are built upon the notion the numbers are science, and that shit is pure and infallible and altruistic, and you can’t fuck with science.
The numbers always are gonna justify whatever the fuck whoever is posting them up wants it to justify. I think about this a lot in terms of a football game where there’s a big third down play, and it’s close, so they do the measurement to see if somebody got a first down. The camera closes in on the measurement, and it’s the football there, with the pole attached to the ten foot of link chain, and you get this very dramatic interpretation of the measurement where it’s like, “OH SHIT, THEY’RE TWO INCHES SHORT!” Of course all of that is predicated upon the ref putting the ball down wherever the fuck he thinks he should go. And on the other end of that ten feet of chain is just some dude poking the other pole into the fucking ground wherever the fuck he thinks it goes. It’s all theater. You can best believe the same math that had folks in charge thinking a whole slew of human beings only counted 3/5 is being used to figure out whatever numbers they’re brandishing about now as well.
