SONG OF THE DAY: The Model (kudzu'd)

We need to think globally about our collective problems, but act locally, as it’s a more attainable model. When I see what the Space Nazi who is also the largest hoarder of abstract wealth on the planet is doing, around the planet, it’s easy for me to think, “Well, I wish I could help him no longer exist on this mortal coil,” but that’s fairly difficult for a simple country bhoy from Wherever, America, to accomplish. But wherever in Wherever, America, you are, if you’ve got the gumption, you can find a largest hoarder of abstract wealth within 75 miles as the crow flies, and you can very well help them no longer exist on this mortal coil. This is like the opposite of trickle down economics (which doesn’t work… we’ve had enough time since Reagan’s bullshit to see that), like a trickle up fear-of-deathness. The best hoarders of abstract wealth, both globally and locally, really need to be more afraid.

SONG OF THE DAY: Dirty Work

What an amazingly catchy fuckin’ song. This shit is beyond ear worm; like it bores down into your soul and you’re just walking to go put the clean clothes from the washer into the dryer and this shit starts singing from deep inside of you, and there’s nothing you can do but sing it. It’s annoying. MK-Ultra ass bullshit.

SONG OF THE DAY: 3 Parts Per Million

Conspiracies used to be fun, when they were printed and you had to go searching for them. Now they’re mainstream and everybody’s grandma is posting conspiracy theories as DOCUMENTED REALITY YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS YOUTUBE on social media, and it’s depressing. I liked conspiracy theories before they blew up, back in the day, Behold a Pale Horse era conspiracy theories. Eventually I gave up on them because they give humans too much credit for keeping secrets. Any conspiracy that requires more than a couple people to keep shit quiet is a lie, because human beings are notoriously fickle, and incompetent. That doesn’t mean fucked up shit doesn’t happen, often times on a grand scale. But humans aren’t nearly as clever or devious as we’re trained to believe. Mostly they’re just fucked up,greedy, and evil, so when bad shit is happening, it’s nothing more complicated than some fucked up greedy evil fucker is doing nasty shit.

SONG OF THE DAY: Woke As Me

We are in quarantine in America, and perhaps it is dystopian but wow what a bourgeoisie dystopia, nothing like ‘70s and ‘80s movies led me to believe. A long day of pretending to work from home was psychically exhausting so I fell asleep, and woke up and it was already dark, so drove through the abandoned streets to pick up take out from the Afghan place across town. The city was dead, not literally, just vacant for 8:30 on a Friday night, creepily so, no burning cars or warlords or really anything. Just a well behaved quiet. After picking up my order (actually my girlfriend’s order), thanking the nice woman giving me my food at the Afghan spot, including a mint doogh (always a mint doogh), I navigated my way out the parking lot, having to turn left, but the light never changed. It let the mainstream of traffic keep doing, like twice, and never let me go left. I could’ve turned right, gone down a bit, and done a U-turn to go left, although not even sure you can U-turn there, might’ve ended up going halfway to Maryland by the time I could’ve turned around. Fuckin’ light didn’t want me to go left at all, so finally I just made sure no cars were coming and just went fucking left. The system gets in the way sometimes.
I realized as I was sniffing the smell of my jasmine rice and lamb kebab float through the Toyota Corolla air, that this was all metaphor for politics in America. But I also realized I didn’t give a fuck to get everybody to turn left. I was just trying to get the fuck out of the way of everybody else and go live my life in peace. Y’all can stay stuck at the fuckin’ stoplights for the next nine generations if you want, telling me, “THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STOPLIGHT EVER! IF YOU JUST TURN LEFT WHEN IT’S RED YOU’VE ESSENTIALLY GIVEN UP ON EVER ACTUALLY TURNING LEFT LEGALLY, IN INCREMENTAL STEPS!” I know, right?

SONG OF THE DAY: Black Messiah

Simultaneously seen some folks complaining about how not enough deaths are getting classified as Covid 19 deaths, while other folks complain about how too many things that have underlying health issues are getting classified as Covid 19 deaths. Both sides are built upon the notion the numbers are science, and that shit is pure and infallible and altruistic, and you can’t fuck with science.
The numbers always are gonna justify whatever the fuck whoever is posting them up wants it to justify. I think about this a lot in terms of a football game where there’s a big third down play, and it’s close, so they do the measurement to see if somebody got a first down. The camera closes in on the measurement, and it’s the football there, with the pole attached to the ten foot of link chain, and you get this very dramatic interpretation of the measurement where it’s like, “OH SHIT, THEY’RE TWO INCHES SHORT!” Of course all of that is predicated upon the ref putting the ball down wherever the fuck he thinks he should go. And on the other end of that ten feet of chain is just some dude poking the other pole into the fucking ground wherever the fuck he thinks it goes. It’s all theater. You can best believe the same math that had folks in charge thinking a whole slew of human beings only counted 3/5 is being used to figure out whatever numbers they’re brandishing about now as well.

SONG OF THE DAY: Last Time That I Checc'd

My filter bubble doesn't expose me to a lot of west coast rappers, so I didn't really catch Nipsey Hussle until he smacked up that dude in that viral clip a year or so ago. Then I got bored with everything in my life (as usual, and common, when we consume material cultures as a sense of identity, because it ultimately lacks the sustenance of true culture so we are always hungry and searching and pretend this is expanding our curation of culture when in actuality it is absence of culture) and made an effort to listen to all the west coast shit that had been prominent from the past few years. Nipsey stood out, easily, not only in delivery but in the sedimentary content of his lyrics. He was a deep dude.
In the immediate aftermath of his murder, online realm was convinced it was a government assassination due to the Dr. Sebi documentary. But then people were like, "lolol, no this was a gang shooting." Two theories here, though: THEORY A - killed by govt, as assassination, which is being dispelled as ridiculous conspiracy. THEORY B - he was murdered by another gang-adjacent individual over petty beefs, but that entire biosphere of gangsterism was expanded greatly in '80s with crack import to inner-cities, which destabilized urban minority neighborhoods further than they already were. This was seen as crazy conspiracy when Gary Webb wrote about it 30-some years ago, but it came to be seen as true. So either way, directly or indirectly, Nipsey Hussle was killed by government assassination.
Side notes here - the guy who shot him was laughed about because his name was Shitty Cuz. All his social media referred to himself as Fly Macc. A couple tweets I came across told a story that when he was accused of snitching by gang associates, they raped him, and somebody made a funny comment after raping him which led to his street name being Shitty Cuz. So while everybody was laughing about what a dumb name that was, it appears to have come from sexual assault in that prison-industrial way where patriarchal dominance is applied man-on-man (or men-on-man in this occasion).
Second side note - The sharing of what a tremendous influence Nipsey was having in his own community, choosing to re-invest there instead of disappearing off to elsewhere, that was great to see. But the second wave was people throwing up memes that there's Nipsey's in your own city you don't support. Sorry y'all, but a dude trying to get me to buy a $30 t-shirt I'll never wear at the local hip hop showcase who has his own clothing company is not the same as re-investing actual money and trying to pull your community up. I get that people got dreams and are chasing them, but you demean the actual accomplishments of Nipsey Hussle by trying to associate your hustle with his. But I'd rather you be out there hustling than all of these generally white and often wealth-adjacent promoters who exploit y'all.
Third side note - POC internet was all about that Dr. Sebi conspiracy, and I was actually kicking it with some older progressive white folks yesterday (as a white folk, I know many white folks), and they were talking about a microbiologist or somebody who had food theories that had cured people of some horrible shit, but had to keep it on the down low because pharmaceutical/medical industry would come out blazing if you made claims that challenges their authority. I brought up the theories that Nipsey Hussle's murder was related to Dr. Sebi, an asked if they knew Dr. Sebi. None of them did, and only one of them knew Nipsey Hussle (or at least said anything about knowing him). Again, our filter bubbles are weird, which are engineered in a lot of ways, to keep people separate, so as to consume their identity in different economically appropriate ways.
Which brings me to side note four - the government, at this point, wouldn't have killed Nipsey Hussle, if you assumed that Nipsey's murder was a hit. The police are an agent of the state, and even if Fly Macc/Shitty Cuz was a snitch, the police often put the word out that people are snitches to get them fucked up. Or they turn snitches into assassinations to distance themselves from the act. But police are an agent of the state, and the state is an agent of the ruling class. We live in a corporate oligarchy at this point, so if anybody needs to be silenced or eliminated or shut down, it happens. It's always happened. This is nothing new in the American experience. Social media/internet gives us access to so much more, and people start falling down rabbitholes and want to think they're some brilliant social scientist that has connected all the dots, but fuck man, most of what we connect is obsolete by the time it goes public. We can't figure it all out. But if you pull back and big picture the shit, it's obvious the state is fucked, but it's also obvious regardless of how fucked a state is you can carve out a shadow existence that is out the spotlight and halfway tolerable. The problem with America today is the spotlight is shining all over the place, and everybody feels out in the open and fucked. Everybody's depressed and hopeless and feels like the end of the world is coming. It's not the end of the world though, just the end of an era. So eat right, live right, help and build with your community, and build the tendrils of survival for yourself.

SONG OF THE DAY: Wow Freestyle

Sadly I go by a method of having listened to this shit on my stupid car ipod (an old iphone converted to music only), and I’m still a few months behind on these because I don’t owe the internet shit at this point. I move at my own speed. But then fucking Obama put this song on his year end Best of list, so I feel corny as fuck still posting it up. But to not put it up would simply be an act of contrarianism against self, which tbh I’m not above doing. Fuck all presidents, even the alleged good ones. Nobody good ends up being a president.

SONG OF THE DAY: Beautiful Loser

Some things are so beautifully stupid they are you. Bob Seger had a knack for making shit like that, then he took himself serious, and now I think he’s actually a cyborg powered by experimental General Motors robotics being funded by the Koch Brothers. Because of this Cyborg Seger only allows you to like the appropriate songs, which are forced into 70s theme radio consciousness (now satellite channels) which impregnate your brain with thoughts of “wow I could get 0% financing on a new Silverado!” except let’s be serious, you and me don’t qualify. We are legit beautiful losers, not art ones, and great art born from truth eventually homogenized into selling manufactured shit is no longer as great an art as the fucked up messes that represent it. Nobody is tattooing Bob Seger lyrics on their bodies, or if they are they are likely cops or at least pro-cop, and nobody who is ever pro-cop should ever be trusted on anything, even simple shit like music. Anyways, these are my thoughts on Bob Seger’s “Beautiful Loser”. I hope you don’t wreck your car again this weekend.

SONG OF THE DAY: Cell Therapy (Chopped Not Slopped)

I miss the days of conspiracy theories requiring books, or at the very least printed matter. The entire Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars reveal of the pale horse allegedly came about because of a surplus copy machine with a manual copy left inside by accident. It was born from printed material. Whether that story is true or not is beside the point. Conspiracy theories were slow burners shared with meticulously created materials culled from sources both real and imagined to manufacture this aura of credibility to the notion that there were dastardly humans concocting and perpetuating bastard master plans to influence the course of history, in large or small ways. The pulpy fleshiness of actual books made it seem possible, and yet hardly anybody believed it, because marginal books put out by questionable outlets were laughed at by right-thinking people firmly washed in the mainstream of western civilization.
Fast forward to now, once the idea of books (and most forms of artistic culture) have been fragmented into shards of information stabbed into the internet’s relentless shit storm of pseudo-knowledge, which don’t have to be well-researched and believable to become absorbed by the critically thinking psyche; they just have to stab through the cracks in a person’s metaphysical make-up. And because of this, conspiracies run so rampant that they actually have taken hold in a sizeable part of the public, where some dude you work with might suddenly secretly reveal he’s red pill woke to you in private conversation (at least to me, as I am a white dude), and start dropping Qanon mentions as if there’s some credibility to any of it.
I used to love conspiracy theories when I was younger, and a big part of that was the unstable background I came from, attempting to transition upwards in class and station, and that brought up internal questions like “how come I’m not where these other people are already?” Conspiracy theories gave an explanation, which fuck, we all want explanations for the unexplainable. That’s the reason we have religion, science, and conspiracies – to explain the shit that makes no sense. Obviously the underlying fault in this process is that everything is supposed to make sense, and that there is an actual foundational “sense” that even exists in the first place.
Oddly, as internet culture became more pervasive than weird ass book shop culture, and conspiracies started to thrive in the petri dishes of message boards becoming mainstream, I believed less and less in them. At one point, I wondered if this was just me being contrarian, thinking “oh well if any random motherfucker on reddit can believe a conspiracy theory now, why bother?” but I came to realize it’s because I no longer believed in the foundation of conspiracy theories, which is that a group of human beings could conceivably plan and execute such complicated plans secretly, without fucking it up. The biggest fault in thinking conspiracy theories might work is basic human nature – people are always flawed, and tend to fuck things up. So if you have a large group of people attempting to do some secretive shit, they will fuck it up.
Another aspect to human nature, which goes back to that desire to make “sense” of everything, is that we can find meaning in everything, as a means of manufacturing that sense. I remember being an English major undergrad doing explications of old ass poems, and how we were trained to discern deeper meaning from a poet’s lines. As a poet, it always seemed like such a bullshit task because a lot of times, as a poet, you’re not really thinking too hard so much as being a conduit for some unexplainable shit shooting through you that comes out as words. And you might tinker and concoct and add some direction and meaning to it, but that’s very limited and also an accidental combination with the raw flow that just pops the fuck out your heart and mind when writing. But yo, you could easily bust out a three page explication of a twenty line poem. You can drill in and find deeper meaning in anything.
And this is exactly what online conspiracy theories have become. The entire Qanon phenomenon is very basic cryptic messages being hashed out by a crowd of message board explicators into a deep and significant meaning. When you add in the bonus ego-chemical boost of being able to figure out something regular (normie) people cannot, it’s no wonder digital conspiracy theories have spread so widely that we have an actual President who hints at these somewhat preposterous notions openly. But there’s also this overload of data to cull through, so that when you see a kid from a mass shooting high school show up in a vacation video across the country, people grasping for meaning will decide crisis actors are real and mass shootings are made up.
But as someone who used to sell drugs, carefully and selectively, do you realize how fucking hard it would be to actually have crisis actors to play these manufactured roles in manufactured situations, and have all of them do their job without fucking up obviously, so that these alleged false flags could be flown? That shit is literally impossible. In fact, I fucking dare you to perform the following test – the Saturday afternoon cookout conspiracy theory test. I want you to have a cookout with twenty people taking a different role in making this cookout happen. Each of those twenty people can invite a few people they see fit, but your select twenty is delegated, by you, with the task of making the basic cookout happen – food, plates, music, drink, dominos, whatever else you deem necessary for the conspiracy of a good cookout to happen. You don’t even have to have the goal of having the best cookout ever, which would be the equivalent of a successful enough false flag operation to actually make it to full media scrutiny without falling apart. Just have a cookout. And see how well it goes. I mean, chances are you’ll have a cookout, but somebody in your core execution team of the conspiracy is going to fuck up somehow. Somebody’s gonna be absentee, or will flail, or show up with the wrong piece performed on their part than what was delegated to them. Somebody will hand something off to somebody else who never actually catches what was handed off to them, and you’re likely going to end up with some very simple problems like no hot dog buns, or no non-alcoholic drinks for the kids, or not enough ice, or damn where’s your boy D did nobody tell D? But I challenge you to try this conspiracy to have a good cookout challenge.
Two things will come from it… The first is that lmao no fucking way are conspiracy theories possible for the most part. Humans are too human, and we might be able with our human potential to execute heavy handed power grabs towards fascism like we are seeing currently in the United States, but secretive conspiracies are in all likelihood impossible, and also probably give ourselves far too much credit as being more advanced than we actually are as a species.
But secondly, you’ll have a cookout. This allows you to kick it with real live humans, flaws and all, in a real life environment, free (to an extent) from the digital petri dishes that let our worst fears and misinformed concerns grow unchecked. Real life kicking it stomps out digital poisons, as you become more immune to senseless fears when you realize there’s no ultimate sense to everything and everybody is trying to make sense of this senselessness just like you, and it’s better to share serotonin and dopamine boosting good times together than to sit there festering in fear and loathing and spiral yourselves closer to embracing oblivion as a pseudo-intelligent supreme wokeness. So I hope you have a cookout, and conspire more to conspiracy less. The only real conspiracy is that each of our time on this Earth is limited, and we only got one of us each, so we best make the best of it. Not the most, but the best. Your most is not your best. My most is not my best. Most folks don’t believe that, but the best folks have learned it, often times in hard ways.

[If you made it this far, be aware I have a patreon where I am going to start publishing a lot more of my meandering philosophies in traditional raven mack forms moving forward. Support if you can, and want to. Art wants to be free, but unfortunately, humans are not.]
