SONG OF THE DAY: Rock 'n Roll Mouzone (kudzu'd)

The ancient Greek avatar wearing mirrored sunglasses Western Man of the post-post-modern extremely online variety hates with great haterism a belly on a woman. Obviously, this makes no sensible sense, is not practical with the sucracide glyphosate foods we have at the store (no maha), and just ain't what a Real Man would think. The extremely online Western Man is not Real though, just an algorithmic conscious set of 0s and 1s ragebaiting serotonin for so long that they actually start to believe their gimmick. Personally, I love a belly, and love when a woman not only doesn't give a fuck about it but shakes that thang (said in Hasil Adkins voice, FYI). My people come from the mountains, so curves are appreciated, and in fact make us wanna holler (the good way). So eat a dick, Western Man. You'll feel better.

SONG OF THE DAY: Jbiti (Bosq Remix) (kudzu'd)

The world’s feeling a bit fucked up, so I guess you gotta dance like a fool along the thicc Earth’s edge, and know that the other side of everything being fucked up is a whole lot of sobering thoughts that give assholes a whole lot less space to run wild. That’s what I hope, even though folks are crazy drunk off their propaganda right now. But when the power source dies, reality sets in. They Live taught us that.

SONG OF THE DAY: Two of Hearts (12" version)

It apparently is 12 inch version week here at the old blog nobody reads that still writes about music as if people still download mp3s and want music recommendations and don’t just let spotify suggested playlists pour music down their throat. This song is great though, and me pushing these wonderful disco beats on you has nothing to do with Pride month. I like shit like this year round. I’m comfortable with that.

SONG OF THE DAY: Lowdown

I was pretty shocked a Boz Scaggs song was this damn funky, but in googlifying some info for a blurb (uninspired behavior), I discovered that originally, John Travolta was dancing to this song in Saturday Night Fever, but Columbia Records refused to license the song since it was in another disco movie. Thus, “Staying Alive” got thrown in and the Bee Gees blew the fuck up. This song is way sicker than anything by someone called Boz Scaggs should ever be (no dis to any Bozzes out there). But here we are. (Spoiler alert: good chance the 45 at 33 version of this song – which I love to spin – is gonna show up as Song of The Day pretty soon, too, pulling the rare Rojonekku Song of The Day Double.)

SONG OF THE DAY: Electric Boogie/Break Dance

I can't breakdance worth a shit. Is it too late to learn? Perhaps not but it feels like it. Instead I shall rock electro rap jams at the wrong speed and shuffle around in my old slides while the cats look at me inquisitively. "Play the hand your dealt," like my pop taught me. But also cheat if you get to deal.

SONG OF THE DAY: Ordinary Guy

Joe Bataan is key figure in Fania Records and the Latin Soul sounds of New York City in the late ‘60s. Bataan, who had been in a Puerto Rican street gang and grew up in East Harlem, was actually the child of a Filipino pops and Black mom. Please note, I’m just cribbing from the Wikipedia page, because mostly I just know Joe Bataan because of all these Fania Records retrospectives I’ve been playing the past couple months. But apparently he had a falling out with the owner of Fania, and left the label, but while still there, secretly started his own label – Ghetto Records – funded by successful criminal. Kinda want to hear all that stuff now. Anyways, Bataan helped coin the term “salsoul”, and that dude is still doing shit to this day, and should be considered a national treasure. Why the fuck did we end up with Hamilton’s Starbucks drive through ass cultural event, and not Joe Bataan doing something real? Oh yeah, we hate real in America, and love the superficial. This song is a banger though. One of my faves by Bataan.
