(7s) Artists Wanted #6 - Chaz Bojorquez

Chaz Bojorquez is another figurehead legend in the ever-expanding and hardly distinguishable world of street artists/legit graffiti guys. The thing that sets Chaz apart, for me, is his style goes beyond normal graffiti into wild tangents, yet somehow stays truer to actual graffiti than the space age wannabe manga bullshit a lot of graff artists end up doing on canvas. Chaz was an L.A. kid and idolized the lettering styles of cholo gangsters, which is probably the best fucking style of writing letters ever created. Graffiti taggers got all speed dippy and wild with their letters, but the cholo style has always stayed straight Olde English gangsta in the hands of the barely educated. Chaz's shit has that same mentality, but updates it, not to where it's all cybertronic like most things are nowadays, but to where it's showing how the cybertronics suck and have taken our soul and make us of weak morals and soft minds and hard dicks and stuck in a bright glossy digitized nothing. Chaz's shit doesn't fuck with that noise. And if we're gonna pretend I'm rich and had shit to buy shit, I'd just put a giant billboard up in my field, offer it for free to a slew of companies, have them present their proposed billboards, show it all to Chaz, let him decide which one for me to allow to be put up, and then let him get loose on it. Fuck it man, I dig the whole idea of temporary art anyways, that no one might ever see other than four people who actually know what it is, so I'd, in my fake rich art collecting world, just contract him to do a new one every four months. Keep it in cycles. My pasture would look good as fuck with some pigs trained to stay inside electrified horse tape and root around, a Vollis Simpson whirligig, a Chaz-altered billboard, and my big red maple sitting garden that the red-tailed hawk is always chilling above.
